Frequently Asked Questions
Whether these questions are frequently asked by anyone in Scotland is doubtful as no-one knows these Bavarian words of importance. But i'll answer them anyways.
What is a Dirndl? a Dirndl shows the female Bavarian's assets to full advantage. It is usually ankle long and worn with a beautiful long apron. it shows off hips and cleavage and must be seen to be appreciated.
What is a Gamsbart? proper Bavarians have hunted a mountain goat and are now exhibiting their hunting skills by wearing the little goat's beard decoratively on their hat. This is indeed very important, so try not to laugh about it.
What is Fensterln? when a Seppl desires a Bavarian maiden, he will first make the long journey to the mountains and climb to unknown heights under great danger so he can present her with an Edelweiss, a lovely little flower that grows only on rock cliffs, and is seen even there only rarely. At night time he then proceeds to his fancy maiden's window with a big ladder as she is sleeping on the first floor. He will climb up and knock on her window until she wakes and greets him. He will present her with the flower and try to talk his way into her chamber. If successful he will climb in and her watchful parents will never know. If not successful there is more than one window in the world, with beautiful maidens sleeping innocently inside.
What is a Seppl? a typical moutain Seppl will wear a short Lederhosen, a Bavarian hat with a Gamsbart, he will have his sneezing tobacco, and if you see him hurry past with a ladder you know where he is going...
What is a Weisswurscht? best served with a Weissbier this large white sausage is eaten for breakfast. Another tradition not to shake your head at. Oh, and true Bavarians suck the sausage. This is called 'zuzzeln'.
